Artists Mike and Sarah Marsh needed to clear out their cluttered garage and transform it into a warm, quiet studio space ahead of the Whanganui Open Studios.
We began by framing and lining the garage ceiling with plasterboard to create a smoother, finished feel. We added insulation to help with warmth and acoustic control, especially important with the studio connected to the main family home.
To elevate the space visually, we fixed cavity battens to the concrete block walls and lined them with Okume plywood, giving the space a natural, elegant finish. Mike and Sarah completed the plastering and painting themselves, turning it into a true collaboration.
This project speaks to YPA’s renovation philosophy: crafting spaces that are functional, well-finished, and a pleasure to spend time in.
